Found To Be NOT GUILTY
Aaron Herring a Whiteville Police Department Officer has been indicted
by a grand jury on charges of simple assault, obstruction of justice and
willful failure to discharge duties.
This indictment came down Wednesday afternoon.
Mr. Herring is charged with assault by striking Juwarn Britt in the
face. In March of 2017, Mr. Britt has filed a federal complaint
against Herring and another Whiteville officer, Jeff
Singletary, has accused Herring of assaulted him in the back of a patrol
Herring was booked Wednesday afternoon October 4, 2017, and placed under
a $25,000 bond. Obstruction of justice charge is a felony and the
assault and willful failure to discharge duties are misdemeanors.
Mr. Herring has been placed on non-disciplinary paid administrative
leave until the conclusion of the trial and administrative
