Day of Prayer
The Day Of Prayer
an annual day of observance held on the
first Thursday of May, designated by the
United States Congress, when people are
asked "to turn to God in prayer and
meditation". Each year since its
inception, the president has signed a
proclamation, encouraging all Americans to
pray on this day. The modern law
formalizing its annual observance was
enacted in 1952.
Father, our God teach us to pray
from the heart.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
